Like a kid at Christmas, you tear the envelope open, accidentally ripping the letter inside. You guiltily piece it back together, realizing that you were impatient. Spreading it out on the table, you begin to read.
It's from the club at school called Bad Company. They received your application and are considering you for membership. Excited, you grab the letter and rush to your room.
"Terry," the letter says, "If you are interested in joining Bad Company, please come to the special New Members Night this Friday. We will pick you up at midnight at the east entrance of Fretville Park.
"Please keep in mind that Bad Company is an extremely elite group. We do not let just anyone in. There will be an initiation you will have to pass and it will be tough, so do not come unless you are serious about joining."
You put set the letter down carefully, thinking. Bad Company is a way cool club. Everyone wants in but very few are even allowed the chance to join. But the initiation sounds scary. It's certain to be painful and humiliating. Perhaps you should forget about the club.
